Ankara charges Fetullah Gulen, the Muslim preacher who lives in the US, with organising the coup effort in 2016, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.
Since 2016, Turkey has arrested tens of thousands of people allegedly linked to Gulen. Citing sources within security bodies, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported that Selahaddin Gulen was brought to Turkey by Turkish intelligence agents.
It has not been known where he was arrested.
The agency released a photograph of the suspect in handcuffs. Two Turkish flags had been deployed on his side. The reports offered no information on whether the operation of intelligence agents was made in agreement with the country where Gulen's grandson was arrested.
Selahaddin Gulen is accused of belonging to the terrorist organisation FETO description used by Ankara for the Fethullah Gulen movement.
Gulen, who lives in Pensilvani, U.S.A., insists he leads a peaceful network of charities and companies and denies any connection to the coup effort in 2016.
Erdogan and Gulen were once allies.
Today, Erdogan says Gulen is the leader of a group; the terrorist who aims to overthrow the Turkish government.
Since the handful of failed state in 2016, Turkey has been bringing back eight people accused of belonging to the Gulen network, especially in the Balkans and Africa.
The kidnapping of six Turkish citizens in Kosovo by Turkish agents in 2018 sparked a political crisis in the Balkan country, leading to the dismissal of the interior minister and intelligence chief.
In Turkey, since 2016, more than 140,000 public sector employees, including teachers and judges, have also been dismissed or suspended for suspected links to Gulen.
