A statement by German Health Minister Jens Spahn on the infections of Covid-19 last summer has brought a sharp reaction of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Spahn has said that half of the infections from Covid-19 last summer in Germany have come from family visits to the Balkans.
In a reaction to the popular German newspaper B ILD, Rama has countered Spahn, naming his statement a scandal.
“It is a scandal a German minister publicly condemns the Balkans and thus also depreciates people with a background of migration. I will not allow Albania to be portrayed as a danger zone for holiday travel, as there are no figures to prove this”, Rama has declared.
The prime minister criticised Spahn, saying that “A German health minister should take care of the vaccinated German population and not arouse stereotypes against the Balkans in order to protect a visible bad record”.
We learned from last summer. At the time, travel abroad, often visits to relatives to Turkey and the Balkans, caused about 50 per cent of infections. We have to prevent this year”, Spahn told BILD earlier.
