While, the ombudsman has reacted today to the beating of minors in Pristina, beating another minor in Gjakova.

The ombudsman institution has said that violence against children is inertious and that all forms of violence endanger and damage their physical and moral integrity.

The AP calls on relevant schools to deal with cases until their solution and to ensure that children, victims of harassment (mullism), are safe and receive adequate psychological support. And all children involved in violence must receive psychological treatment from schools.

The IAP calls on the Kosovo Police to handle cases immediately in line with the first legal procedures.

Full response:

Pristina, May 30st, 2021 B.C.

Violence against and among children is unacceptable!

All forms of violence and mistreatment endanger and undermine the child's physical, mental and moral integrity, as well as constitute a violation of the child's fundamental rights, defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, and the Law on the Protection of the Child.

The Child Protection Law imposes institutions to develop and implement policies and programmes aimed at providing child protection, life risk prevention, and any kind of violence. Children need to be protected from violence regardless of where it is performed, especially in educational institutions.

The IAP calls on relevant schools to handle cases until their solution and to ensure that children, victims of harassment (mullism), are safe and receive adequate psychological support. And all children involved in violence must receive psychological treatment from schools.

The IAP calls on the Kosovo Police to handle cases immediately in line with the first legal procedures.

The IAP calls on August to co-operate with schools and municipalities so that this problem can be addressed as quickly and effectively.

IAP also calls on all institutions, civil society and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to mobilise and address violence because fighting and preventing violence is a comprehensive responsibility.
