The German party's landscape has proved more resistant to immediate changes than in other European neighbouring countries, with Merkel's CDU leading nearly 17 years, writes The Guardian, term Periscopi.
But in recent polls, it is envisioned that conservatives could fall as the strongest party in Bundestag on 26 September.
Six of the ten surveys released in the last two weeks have shown an advantage for the Greens, who were fifth in the last election of 2017.
The latest poll gives this party 27 percent, or the possibility that the Chancellor candidate, Annalena Baerbock, will have a comfortable position in selecting potential coalition government partners.
