Great Britain today approved the vaccine with a dose against the Janssen coronary from the US pharmaceutical group Johnson & Johnson, adding a fourth vaccine to its arsenal in the fight against pandemic, the Health Ministry reported.
Adopted today by the British regulator (MHRA), this vaccine will join the Pfizer/ BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Modernna, which need two doses, already used in the country.
On Twitter, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson hailed him as very welcome news, underlining the important role the vaccine will play in the vaccine campaign.
British Health Minister Matt Hancock welcomed a further “achievement in the British vaccination programme, which has already saved 13,000 lives”.
“This vaccine will play an important role in the coming months as we double our efforts to encourage all to vaccinate and potentially launch a reinforcement programme later in the year”, he added.
Great Britain has ordered 20 million doses of this vaccine, which, like the AstraZeneca, has become the object of fear over cases of blood clotting.
Belgium decided this week to limit its use to over 40 years of age, after the death of a patient thought to have been a victim of secondary effects. / AT S-AFP/
