The Asteroid will travel at an almost equivalent speed 20 times faster than a rifle bullet.
Known as 2021 KT1, the asteroid will make a close <x0/ifum” with Earth on June 1st around 10:24 am ADT, according to NASA.
The word “roughly” is a relative cosmic concept. It has been estimated that the distance the rock will actually pass near Earth is about 4.5 million miles, or 19 times the distance between Earth and the moon, Newsweek reports.
NASA estimates that the asteroid's size is diameter between 492m and 1,082 feet [1,082 m] or approximately the size of three football fields NFL combined, according to “Washington Newsday”.
But according to the Centre for Near Earth Object Studies, it is not a major cause for concern.
“No one should worry too much about an impact on Earth by an asteroid or comet,” said the Centre in a post on its website.
However, the chances of our planet being hit by an asteroid one day are small, but never a zero.
