Islamic Community head Naim Ternava has spoken about the situation in Jerusalem, stressing that the passage of the conflict from which innocent Palestinian people were taken lives from the ranks of civilians at the end of Ramadan's grand month and on the eve of Fiter Bajrami's holiday undermines efforts to negotiate between the two peoples.
Full announcement:
With concern I have witnessed the exacerbating of the situation in Jerusalem that began with the violent expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in Sheik Jarrah to continue with the attack and desecration of the Al-Axa Holy Mosque institution.
I express my deep concern for the violence exercised against Palestinian residents in Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories.
The passage of the conflict, which claimed lives of innocent people from the ranks of civilians at the end of the Greater Ramadan month and on the eve of the Fiter-Bajram holiday, undermines efforts to negotiate between the two peoples.
Jerusalem is the place of all monotheistic religions and beliefs, and as such it should be a place of coexistence and understanding.
We pray that as soon as Jerusalem, Al-Axa, and other objects of worship will find peace while the inhabitants of Jerusalem find peace and security.
