After meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov said the meeting was constructive, but also stressed that there are serious differences about the way the two states see the world.
During the meeting in Rajjavik of Iceland, Lavrov said he hopes the leaders of the United States and Russia will determine ways to improve the reports, although their views differ greatly, when it comes to assessing the international situation and the approach of both countries to how it should be resolved.
An American official named the meeting productive, but said there was no considerable rapprochement and that work to improve relations between the two world powers will take place during the coming weeks and years, writes Free Europe.
The top diplomats met for the first time since American President Joe Biden's arrival in power. The meeting was held as part of the two-day summit of the Arctic Council.
Several topics were discussed at the meeting, including the gathering of Russian troops near Ukraine, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the release of two American citizens held in Russia and the proposal for a summit between the Presidents Beden and Putin.
Lavrov did not say whether Moscow has accepted the summit proposal, but said he will prepare proposals with Blinken for a possible meeting.
