Jameel was president of the scientific advisory group known as INSACOG, but he refused to show the reason for the resignation, Reuters reports.
“I'm not obliged to say why,” he wrote in a message to the British news agency.
INSACOG warned the government in early March of a new and more contagious type of virus spreading throughout the country, B.1.617.
Asked why the government no longer responded to the intelligence of the advisory body by limiting the meetings, Jameel told Reuters he was concerned that authorities were not paying sufficient attention to the evidence presented.
