LVV activist who became a member of the TKK Steering Council had been stuck for 15 years in Bachelor studies.

Vetevendosje Movement activist, February Aliu, who was appointed a member of the Kosovo National Theatre Steering Council, had taken 15 years to graduate from the UP Faculty of Arts. Her professor, director Agim Selimi, confirmed this for Express. Aliu has been engaged politically in [...]

Aliu has been engaged politically in the Vetevendosje Movement for many years. Now that Albin Kurti's party took full power, it has managed to move quickly to the leading hierarchy of the top theatre institution in the country. On 30 May, just before midnight, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Hajrula Ceku introduced him to the Kosovo National Theatre's Steering Council.

Politically, Aliu had not been able to become an MP when she was racing for a term in the Assembly in 2017. Professionally, she was aiming to achieve a leadership position a year after those elections, but had failed to become director of Theatre “dona” in the capital.

LVV's activist graduated and received the title “Bachelor of the Theatre Regiment” in the summer of 2016 alone, as evidenced by the competition for director of the “Dodona” in 2018.

Her professor, director Agim Selimi, has confirmed to Express that Ali was enrolled at the Faculty of Arts at Pristina University shortly after the war in Kosovo ended. Selimi says that same year, in the direction of the Theatre Regiment, Ben Apolloni, also appointed a member of the TKK Steering Council.

Yes, 2000-2001. He was with this Ben Apollo. They were in a class together. The truth is”, Selimi confirmed.

He said Ali had been stuck in the study while he named him an average student who had not witnessed any particular quality.

I don't know, but it's possible. I know it was stuck. But the record knows exactly. He was in my class, then he went to Bekim River and then there was a jam. I know right about graduation, but it's gotta be somewhere. He was an average student. He was on a level with this Ben Apollo. Three men were in class. It was average. There was no one... to say something special, but average”, Selimi said.

For Ali's notes, Professor Selimi said there were data, but it said that “I wouldn't have entered private questions”, because, as he added, “all are students for us, regardless of the” definitions.

Hajrula Ceku's praise in February as a rationale for the appointment

On Wednesday, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Hajrula Ceku wrote a long Facebook post not only to justify Ali's appointment as a member of the Theatre Steering Council. He praised his associate party, stressing that the law gives him the right to put whomever he wants on this council.

I appointed a professional, not an unrecognizable militia to that task. I've named a theatre director, not one who doesn't even know where he competed, I've named the theatre February, not Vetevendosje Short”, wrote Ceku.

The minister, who during the election campaign for the February 14th general parliamentary elections, pledged that he would departisanise cultural institutions, said that “partnership in appointments occurs when the main criterion for taking office is party membership”.

It's a professional, hard-working, integrity-free man. He gave a lot to the theater, didn't take anything. There is still to give theatre life in Kosovo”, Ceku has written. “I have full confidence in its professionalism and integrity, so I have appointed her to that task”, he added.

At the country's top theatre institution, Minister Ceku Sée has left none of the Council's preliminary composition members, whose mandate lasted just a few months.

The preliminary members, Besim Rexaj, Mustafe Halili, Munish Hyseni, Agron Grguri, Ismet Azemi and Feim Maliqaj, along with former head of the TKK Steering Council, Agron Shala, for their dismissal 30 May before midnight, said they were informed only through the media.

Other members of the TKK Steering Council were named Armend Smajli, Ben Apolloni, Gresa Pallaska, Rebecca Doga, Visare Aliu and Brikena Muliki.

Express has tried to get a comment from February Ali, but it has been peaceful.
