Kosovo's Independent Private Sector Union has protested because of the plight of private sector workers in the country. On International Workers' Day, dignified and equal treatment of workers in the private sector and a minimum wage hike of 350 euros was required.
Union Chairman Yusuf Azemi that the new institutions should establish the Labour Court and realise the collective contract.
“We are working with salaries which are the smallest in the region. We're working with salaries we can't live for. We're getting salaries that aren't letting us die. Governments just thought about how to take advantage of us, never at any point, and they didn't do it in favor of private sector workers. We more than 50 per cent of the workers are without employment contracts... 2:40 past governments and this government has so far made no movement smaller. We promised that three times in the package of economic recovery will be paid 300 euros, but until now it didn't happen, and by all odds it won't happen”, he said.
Voicing his pledge, Azemi said their aim was to confront the executives that there should be no salary under their demands.
Our expectations in the future are that there is no salary under 350 euros, we should stay at home and not make expenses. From now on we will demand that there is no salary at 350 euros”, he said.
During the day, the Independent Airport Union and the Kosovo Trade Union protested.
The president of the latter, Alush Sejdiu, said May 1st of this year private sector workers are finding them in serious and contempt
May “1st, International Work Day, Kosovo workers are being found in a very serious, despised and unfortunately ignored position by Kosovo institutions, but also by employers...18:17 We demand that the rights that the Labour Law guarantees to us, collective agreement and the Law for union organisation be implemented. This is just a march, a warning protest, because if this is continued with this government-responsible trend, but even the management we will not stop with protests...24:56 we have obstacles to union membership, not only at the airport, but also at other associations. So the laws are violated every day, someone's using this pandemic situation for his own sake,”, he said.
