Israel, Egypt discuss ceasefire with Hamas and the rebuilding of Gaza

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri has said in a statement that the talks were part of Egypt's “efforts to maintain peace”.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi has said after arriving in Cairo that he will discuss achieving the permanent ceasefire with Hamas.
He has said that the talks will also focus on how to create “a mechanism for offering humanitarian aid” and “restruction of Gaza through the important role the international community plays”.
This has been the first official visit by an Israeli Foreign Minister to Egypt in the last nearly 13 years.
Meanwhile, Egypt's state television has reported that the president of this state, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, has sent his intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, to Tel Aviv to discuss with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Officials in Egypt have also said they will travel to Ramallah and Palestinian territories to negotiate with Palestinian officials.
Last week, Egypt has invited Israel, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority for separate discussions in Cairo to consolidate the Egypt-brokered ceasefire, as well as for increased Gaza reconstruction work.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is expected to visit Cairo next week, according to the spokesman of this group Abdelatif al-Qanou. / REL/
