Foreign Minister Simon Coveney backed the motion on Tuesday and condemned what he described as the unequivocal “maniferation” of Israel's treatment of Palestinian people. The bill will be debated tonight.
“Scalah, speed and strategic nature of Israel's actions in expanding settlements and the goal behind them has brought us to the point where we need to be honest about what's going on on on the ground... it's de facto annexation,” told the Coveney parliament, writes The Guardian, translation Periscopi.
This is not something that I, and this parliament, are easily saying. We're the first EU state to do it. But that reflects the great concerns we have about the purpose of Israel's actions, and of course, their impact. ”
For more than 50 years, Israel has kept Palestinian territories under occupation. In recent years, the government of Israel has announced its intentions to take, or annexe, the permanent land.
