Belarus forced the plane, which was on its way to Lithuania, to land in Minsk claiming there was a bomb on the plane, reports the BBC, translates Periscopi.
They arrested Belarusian journalist and activist Roman Protasevich later.
The 26-year-old was on Ryanair's flight from Athens. The plane had to land at Vilnius but was still in Belarusic airspace when the authorities of this country deceived the pilots and forced him to sit in their capital.
Witnesses said that the activist in question was “up-feared” and told them he could face the death penalty.
State media in Belarus said President Alexander Lukashenko had personally given the order in question.
