Israel and Palestinian militants carried out new attacks last night, but stopped the shootout for several hours in the early hours Thursday, just a day after US President Joe Biden asked Israel to immediately reduce tensions.
It is not clear whether the calm that is lasting a few hours is part of a truce or just a temporary break of violence, writes The Guardian.
Israel carried out over ten air strikes in Gaza after midnight, including two that destroyed two houses at the time when violence entered on the eleventh day. Doctors said four people were injured in air strikes in the town of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.
Alarm sirens were activated in the early hours of Thursday in Beersheba, Israel, bordering Gaza, but there were no reports of human damage or consequences. After 1: 00 p.m., however, there was no report of any Gaza-throwing missiles.
Both sides of the conflict Wednesday denied that the ceasefire would be reached soon, but efforts for such a thing are continuing, and international pressure has increased.
France is circulating a resolution in the United Nations, adding pressure on the US to seek ceasefire, while the French state also came up with a joint declaration with Egypt and Jordan, with which the parties immediately urged to agree on a ceasefire.
Since the beginning of fighting on May 10th, Palestinian health officials have said 228 people have been killed in air strikes. Among them are over 60 children. On the other hand, there have been 12 victims in Israel.
