During the meeting held this morning, the head of the investigative commission, Alket Hyseni, as he presented the final report, said this document would be voted unanimously during today and submitted to parliament within seven days.
It turns out that the president has clearly carried out unilateral party activities, anti-offerance, which conflicts with Article 89 of the Constitution, predicting that the president cannot retain any other public duty, can neither be a party member nor perform any other activities. The president should not be involved in election campaigns against one or several political forces, or support other groups. His public, tough stand against the majority, the president has kept them constant. The Investigative Commission appreciates that the president did not stand on the sides and, with his stance, lost the function of being a factor of balance”, Hyseni said.
The decision needs 94 votes for the president of the Republic to be dismissed.
The Socialist Party, which won elections in Albania for the third time, has launched a process with which it claims to dismiss the president, saying he has violated the Constitution with the language used in his statements before, during and after the election campaign.
Socialist MPs have said President Meta has made flagrant violations of Albania's Constitution and that “with actions, behaviour and messages given in public has not guaranteed national unity, has not moderated political conflict, but has instead promoted it to such terms, which resulted in the organised appearance of political party militants in the streets terrorising citizens, limiting their freedom of movement and personal freedom, to the end of armed conflicts. ”
The head of state, Ilir Meta, has not been submitted to any of the hearings, despite calls received by the Baltimore Commission and the SP deputies.
Meta has said he will not recognise any activities of a “one party” and will exercise his duty until July 24th 2022.
In the event of the dismissal, President Meta would become Albania's first dismissed president in the 30-year era since Albania overthrown 50-year-old communism and paved the way for democratic transition. / REL
