Exceptive social services support for disabled people, HANDICOS request clarification from Shpend Ahmeti

The Association of Paraplegics and the Paralysis of the Children of Kosovo -- HANDICOS, through a media communique, has asked for clarification from the Pristina Community about the exclusion of social services support for disabled persons. The communique says Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti, in December of last year [...]

In the communiqué it is said that Pristina municipality chairman Shpend Ahmeti, in December of last year, had published the information that the Centre already called for Down Syndrome and Autism will be built as a municipal institution, however, it has created only two groups of limited capacity.

Full communication:

Exceptive social services support for disabled people, HANDICOS urges clarification by Pristina municipality

THE Association of Preplegics and Paraplegics of the Children of Kosovo, since its foundation, works to improve the quality of life and the situation of disabled people, lobbiing and reluctant to respect and fulfill their rights, to achieve an equal society for all.

HANDICOS now and decades offer numerous services for children and adults with different disabilities. But the continuation of providing these services, which are primary and more than necessary, remains a disturbing challenge for the disabled, their families and our organization, given that HANDIKOS functions only under projects, without any long-term stability or even expansion opportunities.
This challenge in providing services for disabled people is shared by other associations who work in the field of limited capacity, namely in providing social services.

For some organisations, however, the solution has already been made, excluding the group of people he works with HANDIOS.
Pristina municipality chairman Mr. Shpend Ahmeti in December last year had published the information that the centre now called Down Syndrome and Austin will be built as a municipal institution, which we have welcomed and seen as a good model, even though this object was originally meant to be the Center for disabled persons, indiscriminately, while later municipalities by a decision turned only to these two groups of limited capacity.

In this regard, HANDICOS has repeatedly demanded clarification of this exemption and discrimination from the Pristina Community, but has never so far accepted any information or answers from them.

Therefore, HANDICOS requires public clarification from the Pristina Community to show us what criteria our service support organisation must meet, just like the Down and Atism Syndrome associations.

It should be noted that the HANDIKOS Centre, which is located in the Veternik, owns an object that meets all infrastructure conditions for providing many services, possessing working rooms with children and adults, different rooms and daily attitudes for all age groups, prepared staff, assistant equipment workshops, and adapted vehicles, which have been achieved through multi-year-old work, particularly in collaboration with international partners.

So HANDICOS explains that it is not asking for the building of the facility, but only equal support for other groups of limited capacity, in particular for children and their families who are in the most difficult economic and social situation, that institutionalisation and support of the services that HANDIKOS offers, from the municipality of Pristina would solve this ever - present problem.
