“I am happy to announce that the European Commission has just approved a contract for 900 million guaranteed doses,” wrote von der Leyen on Twitter.
Furthermore, the agreement allows EU states to buy another 900 million doses, she added.
“Other contracts and other vaccine technologies will be followed”, von der Leyen wrote.
The new contract, which has the support of EU member states, will include not only the production of vaccines, but also ensuring that all essential components come from the EU.
