Turkey's President Recep Tayip Erdogan urged Pope Francescu to help mobilise the world to pass sanctions against Israel for his “masacre to Palestinians at the Gaza Strip.
Turkey has added diplomatic commitment to the situation in Gaza and calls between Erdogan and Pope Francescu took place on that line.
Erdogan told Pope Francescu that “Palestinians will continue to submit to a massacre unless the international community condemns Israel by sanctions”.
According to Turkey, Pope messages are of particular importance to “modernising the Christian world and the international community”.
On Sunday, Pope Francisescu said losing innocent lives in Gaza was a terrible and unacceptable “”.
Erdogan, who has backed the Palestinian issue during his 18-year rule, has repeatedly spoken against Israel's actions.
He told the Pope that “all mankind must be united against” Israel.
In an effort to get international support for possible sanctions on Israel, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu spoke with British counterpart Dominic Raab.
“Cavusoglu told Raab that it is essential for the international community to make a strong response” to Israeli aggression, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source said.
Israel has continued its air strike campaign in the city of Gaza on Monday morning, despite calls for an end to the war.
Israeli combat aircraft launched 80 air strikes in several areas of Gaza City, shortly after Hamas militants opened a hail of rockets in southern Israel.
Through a statement, the Israeli Protection Force (IDF) said the fighter “are hitting terrorists' targets at the Gaza Belt”.
