At least seven people have died and about 14 others have been injured in the Afghan capital, Kabul, after several oil tankers have been involved in the fire and exploded, covering the city with black smoke.
It has not yet been known whether the late May 1st incident has been an accident or a deliberate one.
A driver has told Reuters news agency that about 100 tankers may have been involved in the incident.
Hard-to-do firemen have stopped the flames because of the huge smoke seen on the morning of May 2nd.
Afghanistan's Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian has told reporters that the fire has begun in one tank and then spread to others.
Tens of houses are said to have been damaged or destroyed.
Power lines have also been damaged, leaving a large part of the city with irregular electricity supplies.
The incident is reported at the time when the United States and NATO allies withdraw military forces from Afghanistan.
International military forces must leave this state until 11 September, at the same time the 20th anniversary of al-Qaeda's terrorist attacks on American soil.
