How concerned should we be about clotting blood from vaccines?

International drug regulators have said benefits from vaccines against COVID-19, which was developed by Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca, exceed the risks of these vaccines, while they are investigating very rare but potentially fatal reports of blood clots. Several European Union states have limited the use of vaccines of these two companies, Reuters writes.

Due to concerns that rare side effects may undermine confidence in vaccines, experts have stressed that the possibility of blood clotting by these two vaccines is very low and that vaccines are very effective in preventing deaths from COVID-19.

Both the AstraZenececa and Johnson & Johnson vaccine reported rare cases of blood clotting, mainly of a type of blood clot called venosis cerebral clots and sinus (CVST), which is associated with low blood clots called thrombocitopen.

The European Bars Agency (EMA) has said that most clots occurred in the brain and in the abdomin.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have said to have documented blood clots in various parts of the body, including in the vein and femoral artery, in the inner vein of the neck, in the veins of the upper extremes and in the pulmonary artery.

By April 20th, at least 300 cases of blood clotting have been reported, where patients have also had low blood clots. These cases were reported after managing tens of millions of doses. Of these cases, 287 were blood clots including the CVST and the trumpet of the splancke vein (SVT) which is clotting in the veins of the abdomin. These cases were related to AstraZeneca vaccine.

The European regulator is now reviewing the first report of potential death related to Johnson & Johnson's vaccine, as a 37-year-old man from Belgium had had blood clots and low blood clots.

Over 1.34 million Johnson & Johnson vaccines have been administered so far within EU states.

Johnson & Johnson has said there is no clear link between causing blood clots and vaccines.

This company resumed vaccine supplies to Europe and the United States at the end of April, as vaccine management was cut short for some time because of blood clotting reports. Now, the company places a warning on its vaccines, just to tell about the possibility of blood clotting.

AstraZeneca, on the basis of the demand of drug regulators, has also included the warning that there may be rare cases of blood clotting.

The CDC has said it found a possible “interconnection” between blood clotting and Johnson & Johnson vaccine, after identifying 28 cases that had side effects, out of nine million people that were vaccinated with this vaccine.

The US Food and Barna Administration has said the vaccine is safe and effective to prevent COVID-19, however, has issued guidelines for health personnel on how to act if patients experience blood clots.

Even the European drug regulator has found a possible link between rare cases of blood clotting and AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, but has continued to maintain that the benefits from the vaccine are greater than the risks.

The European Barnas Agency has recommended that anyone with blood clots associated with low blood clots after accepting the vaccine's first dose, the second dose of vaccine from another manufacturer.

However, this agency has enabled the European bloc's states to decide how they want to manage vaccine doses, saying that factors can vary, including infection levels or even if the relevant states have other vaccines available.

The drug regulator in Great Britain has recommended that individuals under 40 take another vaccine as an alternative to AstraZenecas vaccine, stressing that the state has other vaccines available.

Among the potential causes being investigated is the vaccine, in rare cases, causes an unusual response to antibodies. So far, even factors such as age or gender have not been excluded.

Health regulators and scientists are investigating whether the problem of blood clotting can affect all so-called viral vector vaccines, which the European Barnat Agency said is possible.

A group of German researchers said their laboratory research found that rare cases of blood clotting were linked to vaccines that use viruses to send the vaccine material to the organism.

Other separate teams of experts from the German University of Greifwalds and Norwegian scientists have concluded that blood clots have been caused by some of the antibodies created in patients who have received AstraZeneca vaccine.
