China has reported the slower population growth since the 1960 ' s, despite having eliminated politics with only one child in 2015 to encourage more children.
On Tuesday, the government released the results of the prosetus, which takes place every ten years, saying that China's total population had grown to 1,41178 billion in these ten years by 2020, or 5.38 percent. The increase reflects an annual rise of 0.53 percent, from 0.057 percent between 2000 and 2010, writes The Guardian, the Periscope.
Slowing down population growth in China, however, is not surprising, and it is actually better than some analysts have expected.
However, this is a sign that China must address and understand why fewer children are being born, why marriages are being postponed, and why the cost of living has increased.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 12 million babies were officially born in 2020, or 2.65 million less than in 2019, marking an 18 - percent decline.
The current growth of 0.53 percent is lower since the early 1960s when China was being challenged with the consequences of tens of millions of people killed by hunger. /Periscope
