UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has named Gaza <x0ferri on earth for children” as he urged Israel to allow humanitarian aid to enter.
If there is hell on earth, then it would be the life of children in Gaza nowadays”, Guterres said as he appealed to undertake an initiative to finance humanitarian aid among 193 UN General Assembly member states.
“Fighting has caused serious damage to Gaza infrastructure, including roads and electricity, causing humanitarian emergency. Roads to Gaza have been closed and electricity shortages are affecting drinking water supply”, Guterres added.
“Access to humanitarian aid is of vital importance. The attacks of militant groups in areas surrounding border points are unacceptable”, the UN Secretary General said.
Hundreds of buildings and houses have been destroyed, Guterres said, while air strikes have also damaged several hospitals. About 50,000 people are seeking refuge in schools, mosques and places where they have no access to drinking water, food and health services, Guterres said.
The US mission to the United Nations rejected the draft resolution of France to the Security Council for conflict resolution. The United States has traditionally been one of Israel's strongest allies at the UN.
France's draft resolution requires immediate ceasefire and condemns “missile attacks in areas where civilians reside”, but without blaming either party. Furthermore, it requires protection of the civilian population and the resumption of the peace process between Israel and Palestine with the aim of creating two states.
