CECI wants additional budget for local elections

For this, the CEC will have to seek additional budgets in the Government of Kosovo, as part of the planned budget for local elections was spent on organising early elections held in February.
Although the date has not yet been announced for holding these elections, CEC spokesman Valmir Elez said in an interview this institution has started with task planning.
The Central Election Commission, the respective entities, is currently doing plans and tasks for organising local elections, for mayors of the municipalities and for Communist countries. Of course, the start of preparations for organising these elections, in this case implementation of the operational plan begins after we have announced the date for holding elections by Kosovo's president, so we are on hold and then the CEC starts implementing all tasks that come out of the law for general elections and local elections”, Elez said.
Under Kosovo's 2021 budget law, 8m euros have been allocated in the election programme.
“Viti 2021 is a fair electoral year and, being so, the Kosovo Assembly in this year's budget league has planned the budget for holding elections. But, as we know, it has happened that we have early elections for the Kosovo Assembly, which were held in February, and some of these tools have been used for the purpose of organising their”.
“in this situation, it is necessary to apply for an additional budget by the Government of Kosovo. The request, of course, will be submitted after elections are announced, because by then we will have budgetary planning”, Elez said.
The local elections, through which the mayors will be elected in 38 municipalities and councilors in 38 municipal municipalities, are expected to be held in the autumn of this year.
