From the day it was proclaimed "Grathon grant" from the United States, Sali Berisha has come up with few figures in defense.

Granted, no one has attacked him, but his defenders are now counted with their fingers.

The only one who has publicly defended and attacked official Washington is Ilir Meta, but that is understandable because they have the same problem with the US.

But today, Berisha is also a god to Arian Starova, who has written a letter to the American Secretary of State who Blinken must read at Berisha's son's portal.

And he'll probably read it.

Blinken's letter

Following the launch of the State Department's “moral bomb” on May 19th, against Berisha and his family a part of the Albanian media and its diverse guests have been put in search of “victims” and “convicts”. Because there are no victims or legal convicts. Neither Berisha nor his family are. Among the most zealous are the opponents of Berisha and the right-wing political forces, including people of all kinds, the steadfastly loyal of the fallen communist regime, the army of party Socialists and local and central state institutions and permanent customers in search of benefits from today's ruling majority. But there are also people broken by the dense and long demagogy against Berisha and right policy, as well as people satisfied with the mistakes of right-wing governments. All this human crowd “noton” in a “dett” with lies since 1997, when the Socialist Party organised the communist revolution in southern Albania.

However, let us begin to reason. Is Berisha a political leader who has made no mistake? Of course not. He has spoken many times, admitting his own mistakes, and public opinion has heard him. In 2013 he lost his election, left as prime minister, and resigned from the leadership of the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, the slander campaign against him, launched in 1997, has continued with every means even after 2013 and continues. Not only have they called him corrupt but they have shamelessly accused him of murder. The most ridiculous of them at that time was the accusation that she wanted to have “overload Vlora” in 1997!!

And if the State Department has now described it as inappropriate to enter the U.S., because according to information from NGOs, media and Albanian government, it has “favoured the enrichment of its allies and family members”, “is involved in corrupt actions”, “has abused public funds and public processes” and squandered the faith of the Albanian public to the” institutions, this is something that remains to be proved by Albanian justice. Berisha made his move, asked to clarify the truth of the slander against him through a French lawyer's study [because the Albanian woman still has problems.

So, so far the State Department decision remains an act on the moral level. Even as such, however, it does not avoid certain controversy and use of different value standards.

How can what is said in the media be taken to appreciate facts when it is known that there are serious problems with the media in Albania? The same can be said of information received by Albanian government institutions, which are highly politicised towards the opposition and its leaders? Why right now and not immediately after Berisha's departure from power and party?

Why have not even members of his family been condemned morally? Why was Albania accepted into NATO in 2009 and Schengen's visas were lifted on the eve of 2011, when it is known how NATO and the EU are extremely sensitive to corruption? Why have we not seen or heard such a moral condemnation in other well - known Western Balkan cases?

The State Department's moral condemned action has ignored even some historical truths of Albania for the past 30 years, which relate to Sali Berisha.

Albania's strategic direction towards the US and Euro-Atlantic institutions [NATO membership and progress towards the EU], very close co-operation with the US on Albania's fundamental development issues and regional peace and security of the Balkans, developing pro-American relations and popular feelings, etc. are only the most visible part of policies followed under Berisha's leadership.

On the other hand, over thirty years, Berisha became Albania's leaders of democratic processes and reforms. Whether they slander his image or not, it still has the backing of at least half the politically active population. Whether his opponents want it or not, he has entered and will remain in Albania's history.

Another truth is that the Albanian people have been fostering powerful feelings of friendship towards the United States, a friendship that has come from growing and strengthening, even secretly under Communism. Unlike other peoples, Albanians have been taught to always view American support as the “gold key” of resolving the problems of the country and their nation since the days of independence efforts at the beginning of the last century. Therefore, the State Department action does not for good affect the feelings and thinking of much of the Albanian population. The more serious shortcomings of today's government remind Albanians of the old totalitarian regime.

One last comment.

I cannot know exactly how it was possible for the American State Department to make that decision against Berisha and his family. I think of one thing as safe, at least because he's rushed and wrong. Fortunately, I am no longer alone in my reasoning.

If that's how it's supposed to be met by fear of the new “justice and start punishing the big “counterweight “, they've been wrong again, because they've confused the sequence of actions, even “the” that's so added to institutional tanks by misusing the assets that belong to Albanian taxpayers.

Dear Secretary Blinken!

Today's Albanian opposition has really done some derogatory serious actions against Albania's neo-liberal political system, but this cannot justify forgetting the State Department against a regime that invests in the “decoration” of Albania just to conceal giant corruption and narcotics that are shaking the safety of Albanian families every week with their killings.

New Albanian justice much-desired by all Albanians cannot begin to act by baptizing “the” “wrong”, because it will become old since its first day.
