Joe Biden, then US vice president during the term of Barack Obama, was in “Chamber situation”, a super-safe crisis room in the basement of the White House on May 1, 2011, and directly monitored the operation in Abbottabad, northern Pakistan, during which Al-Qaeda's chief was killed.
American forces killed Osama bin Laden in the Pakistani town early in the morning on May 2nd 2011 in a secret Geronimo operation.
Recalling as a special moment in the long political career, Joe Biden in a statement praised that “members of the intelligence service that followed him, President Barack Obama's determination to make a decision and talent and the team's courage on the ground”.
Al-Qaeda has changed dramatically for ten years since the murder of its founder, Osama bin Laden, in the face of the terrorist network that attacked the United States on September 11th, 2001 and has a completely different leadership structure.
After the American Special Forces killed bin Laden in Pakistan, he was succeeded in leading Al-Qaeda by Egyptian jihadist Ayman al-Zawahiri, an ideologist of the much weaker career.
When it comes to the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, Beden stressed that the United States will remain <x0 selective” against the threat of “terrorist groups”.
“We will continue to monitor and act on any threat to US interests from Afghanistan,” he warned.
The American forces began withdrawing from Afghanistan on 1 May, along with the Allies, and Biden announced that he expected the operation to be completed by 11 September, on the 20th anniversary of the US terrorist attacks.
