Physical or verbal attacks were reported against Jews in New York, Los Angeles and Florida during 11 days of fighting in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian militants.
The latest “resolutions against the Jewish community are disgusting and must be stopped. I condemn this hate-based behavior in and out of the country”, Biden wrote in a Twitter post.
Gilad Erdan, Israel's ambassador to the United States, said he hoped hate crimes will be avoided and that attackers will soon be brought to justice.
This must stop. Clearly, the manifestation of Israel is promoting this increase in anti - Semitism”, Erdan wrote.
On Friday (21 May), five main Jewish groups urged President Beden to oppose anti-Semitism and recommended specific actions, including fighting hatred in university campuses and increasing security for religious institutions.
Through a letter, these groups said that since the conflict in Gaza began, numerous anti - Semitic incidents have been recorded worldwide and in the United States, including in social media.
“Autors of these attacks deliberately targeted Jewish institutions and individuals for no other reason than their own” religion, the letter said.
Joseph Borgen, 29, said he was attacked by a group of people in downtown New York on Thursday evening. According to him, they called on antisemitics.
A truce mediated by Egypt between Israel and Hamas entered on Monday in the fourth day. Medical officials said 248 people were killed in Gaza during 11 days of fighting. Doctors said 13 people in Israel were killed in Hamas' missile attacks.
Fighting began on May 10th after weeks of increasing Israeli-Palestinian tensions in Jerusalem. The climax of tensions reached when clashes began in a holy place honored by Muslims and Jews. Then Hamas began firing missiles in Israel's direction, causing revenge attacks by Israeli forces.
