The new target, which also includes the full inoculation of 160 million adults until Independence Day, comes as the demand for vaccines has dropped sharply throughout the country, even some states have not ordered more than half of the doses they should receive.
In a speech from the White House, President Biden called for states to make vaccines available for people so they can receive at will, without meeting. He will provide instructions for many pharmacists to do the same, while his administration is taking steps for the first time to send vaccines from countries with less demand to the most interested ones.
President Biden's new objective is a silent acceptance of the fact that the interest in vaccines has dropped. Already more than 56% of adult Americans have received at least one dose, and nearly 105 million have been fully vaccinated.
The United States is currently managing the first doses at a pace of about 965,000 a day, half the rate of three weeks ago, but almost twice as soon as it is needed to meet the Biden target.
The announcement comes as the Biden administration has left the appointment of a target for achieving the flock's immunity. Instead, it is aiming to manage as many vaccines as possible.
Officials said meeting this target would result in considerable reduction of cases with COVID-19 before the summer season.
To that end, the administration is shifting the government's focus towards expanding smaller and mobile vaccine clinics to make communities easier.
It is also using hundreds of millions of dollars to increase the interest in vaccines through various campaigns.
The White House is also drafting plans to launch group vaccines 12-15 years old.
President Beden is using “sfidon” states to manage at least one dose in this age group by 4 July, in order that as many teenagers are fully vaccinated by the beginning of next school year.
While young people are at much lower risk for serious complications from COVID-19a, they now make up the majority of new viruses. /voa
