Police said they were investigating the editor-in-chief of “Hrodna.life” Shota Aliaxei under suspicion of extremism, the AP News reports.
The publication focuses on Belarus's fifth largest city, Grodno. City police said the website “forwarded products that were recognised as extremists”, but did not provide details.
It was not immediately clear whether Shota was officially accused of extremism, which could hold a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
Shota had collaborated with the country's most famous portal “Tut.by”, which authorities closed this month after 15 employees were arrested.
Belarus's clash escalated a week ago with the arrest of dissident journalist Raman Pratasevich and his girlfriend, who were on a flight that went off at Minsk Airport due to an alleged bomb threat.
The plane was traveling over Belarus along the way from Athens and Greece to Vilnius, Lithuania.
