Israel conducted hundreds of air strikes on Gaza by Wednesday morning, while Hamas and other Islamic groups threw many missile groups towards Tel Aviv and Beersheba, Reuters writes.
One multistory building in Gaza collapsed and another was severely damaged after the two were constantly hit by Israel's air strikes.
Israel said it has targeted and killed several Hamas' intelligence leaders in the early hours of Wednesday. Other aspects of the attacks were what the Israeli army described as sites for launching missiles, Hamas' offices and homes of leaders of this group.
This was the fiercest offensive between Israel and Hamas since the 2015 war in Gaza, and sparked international concerns that the situation could get out of hand.
UN envoy for peace in the Middle East Tornesland wrote on social networks: “Stop fire immediately. We're heading towards full combat. Leaders on all sides must assume responsibility for de-pass. The cost of war in Gaza is devastating and is being paid by ordinary people. The UN is working on all sides to restore peace. Stop the violence now. ”
