Amy: Kosovo must guarantee release of KLA leaders

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's refusal to participate in the meeting in Brussels with Serbia's prime minister, Aleksandar Vuciq, is seeing political analyst Donika Emini as the wrong decision. Among other things, she says Kosovo should ensure the release of former KLA leaders being tried at The Hague. Kurti declared on April 28, that [...]
Kurti declared on April 28th that she will not participate in the meeting, warned on May 11th by European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell, despite international calls for Kosovo to set dialogue with Serbia as a priority
Amy has said in an interview for Online Economy that Kurti's 11 May summit rejection has been the explosive.
“has been a go to Brussels where it is discussed the elements which, apart from other meetings, have also had elements of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue as a process, had another meeting. It normally needs time, while rejection so extensive has not been the right step, but this has been for determining Kosovo's” negotiating position.
“E welcomes the fact that it will have to study all the agreements before returning at least to the negotiating table I hope it will have a constructive approach because any non-constructive approach in the dialogue would be a negative point for Kosovo, in relation to our strategic partners but also to a process which we have started in 2011 and is still running, and it has continued every time the presidents and prime ministers of Kosovo<1> have changed, it has been expressed.
According to Emin, this Government should in co-operation with the country's opposition assign topics and define the flow of dialogue with Serbia.
It remains to be seen, and I hope that by the end of June there will be a return to dialogue and then the principles of topics and the flow of time limit should set it together with the opposition, which Kurti himself has warned as the next step in this direction. There is much work to be done, Kosovo's position in negotiations is not what Kurti or Kosovo would like, but there is still room for our strategic partners, like the US, in this case, of some EU member states in order to return the flow in favour of Kosovo”, she added.
Kosovo analyst has also commented on the controversial question of a third party guaranteeing Thaci's freedom and others currently found in The Hague.
Emini has considered that Kosovo should guarantee the release of former KLA leaders, provided it is addressed properly.
“So Kosovo should be normally guaranteed, but it should be seen whether this guarantee can be taken from other countries like the US or any other EU country that is important within the Council, so that it has other weight than Croatia or Kosovo that we can consider the other parties, more sensitive and vulnerable in the process. Kosovo must address this request but see the best way not to be seen as the intervention in the court's work because that was the problem, and we have two people on the case at court”, she said.
Commenting on recent developments in the country, Emine also mentioned the statements by Minister of Foreign Affairs Donica Gervala, who has said they should not be demonised.
