Kosovo Foreign Affairs Minister Donika Grovalla has dismissed 12 ambassadors from office Wednesday on the argument that they are politically appointed.
Former US Ambassador to Kosovo Avni Spahiu, in a proposal for Front Online, has said their dismissal has been expected, however, he has estimated that this could damage the system.
“has been expected, but it's not good to be done immediately, it's not common because the system can be damaged, changing political or party ambassadors is not unusual. The change of government changes them too, but the way they all change is not right”, he said.
“It must rely on the law, the law says 50 % must be professional and 50 % policy. At the beginning of the establishment of diplomatic service was 70 to 30, but later it was changed to 50 to 50, the new law you were preparing is the return of law 70 to 30, so that is. If you give the law no problem, but more is preferred to be professional than party because we can be in situations that we are now that the government removes all parties and thus damages diplomatic service”, he said.
He has also talked about the work the downloaded ambassadors have done so far.
Spahiu said most ambassadors have done good work, but they have been fired because of their political record, respectively.
“There is no scandal or something they have done to do a normal job somebody has done better work, it's not the question that they were weak, but it's the fact that their political”, he said further.
