The May 7, 8th and 9th of 1999, for many of the citizens of Gjakova, who were in town, recall the moments of fierce fighting between KLA forces and police, the army and Serb paramilitaries.
This battle was important for the fact that the freedom fighters' mission was to protect thousands of civilians in the city of Gjakova.
Seven martyrs and 41 civilians have fallen into this battle. Also, on May 7-8th, 43 citizens of this neighbourhood have been kidnapped and eliminated.
In honour of the heroic fall of Gjakova's martyrs, the 137 Gjakova Brigade of the KLA hosts homazhe.
