Police chief in the northwestern state of Sinaloa, Mexico, Joel Ernesto Soto, has been killed while traveling to the state capital, Culiacán.
According to foreign media, Telegrafi traces, local police said armed persons had fired about two hundred bullets in his car.
Soto had survived an early ambush three weeks earlier when the convoy he was traveling with was attacked near the town of Mazatlán.
The state of Sinaloa is known for gang violence with the Sinaloa most deadly and violent cartel.
However, it is not yet clear who may have been behind the attack on Soto.
Sinaloa State Security Secretary Cristóbal Castañeda said Soto was returning from a trip to see his family when they were detained.
Castañeda said Soto was traveling with his bodyguards but had decided to hold a low <x0-film” and travelled with a “macine disk” when attacked.
