spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz has said that the imam of the mosque, Mofti Naiman, was among the dead. Fifteen more people were injured.
The bomb exploded as prayers began. No one claimed responsibility for the bombing, but initial police investigations suggest the imam may have been the target, Faramarz said.
Talibian spokesman Zubhilah Mujaheded denied any link to the attack on glass, condemning it and accusing Afghanistan's intelligence agency that stands behind the explosion. Both the Taliban and the government routinely blame each other for attacks. The culprits are rarely identified, and the public is rarely informed of the results of the investigation in many attacks in the capital.
It appears the explosive device was hidden inside the speaker in the front of the mosque.
The blast comes on the second day of a three-day ceasefire declared by the Taliban and Afghanistan combat government. Pausa was for the Islamic festival Eid-al-Fitr, which attends the month of Ramadan fasting.
So far many of the attacks in the capital have been claimed by the local Islamic State party, but both Taliban and government blame each other.
