The White House said Friday 100 million Americans are now completely vaccinated against COVID-19, nearly double the 55 million vaccines that were performed until a month ago.
The White House Co-ordinator for the pandemic of COVIID-19, Jeff Zients called “Historical mode” the arrival of this number at a press conference Friday.
“One hundred million Americans now are with a sense of relief and spiritual calm, given that after a long and difficult year, they are protected by the” virus, Mr. Zients said.
Every American over 16 years of age now qualifies to take the vaccine, and President Joe Biden has promised that there will be sufficient doses for every adult American by the end of May.
The situation in the United States is in stark contrast with that in India, where the coronary pandemic is getting out of control. According to India's health ministry, only 2% of the country's population has been fully vaccinated, given data received by Thursday. On Friday, the health ministry reported 386,452 new infections.
According to official figures, over 300,000 new cases per day have been recorded in India for nine days straight, but Indian media report that some public health experts believe the actual number of new infections may be at least five times higher.
Help from the United States and other countries arrived in India on Friday. American aid includes oxygen supplies, rapid diagnostic tests, and vaccine production materials.
