Washington Accords: Government Kurti sees you beyond its politics

US Ambassador Philip Costnett has said that his state has the same attitude towards the Washington Agreement, despite the arrival of Joe Beden to power. He has said he expects the new government in Kosovo to continue in this direction, despite Prime Minister Albin Kurti's statements that “we have no obligations to commitments [...]
He has said he expects the new government in Kosovo to continue in this direction, despite Prime Minister Albin Kurti's statements that “we have no obligation to Kosovo's illegal prime minister's pledges when we return to office”.
Some people thought the Benden Administration would simply tear everything the Trump Administration had done. That didn't happen. In fact, the Biden Administration has made it clear that we think a large part of the work done in strengthening trade relations between Kosovo and Serbia and in the region was positive and that we will continue to work on it”.
This is also the policy of the Benden administration. Therefore, what we're looking for from Kosovo, Serbia and others is not just to have an immediate reaction that we don't like what the Government has done, so we'll get rid of it. I think if you look at the specific goals of Washington's deal, for strengthening trade, for strengthening investments, for strengthening American investments in the region, these are positive things. Therefore, what I would ask from the Kosovo government is to move beyond its policy and see if the things discussed last year still make sense to the people of Kosovo. And I think they make sense. Strengthening economic ties between Kosovo and Serbia, between Kosovo and all countries in the region, is in the interest of Kosovo”.
Cosnets in Rubik, Kosovo, have said provisions of the Agreement to strengthen road, railway and air ties, as well as bringing more American investments to the region through the Corporation for Financial Development, are very positive for Kosovo.
He is also seeing Israel's receiving recognition from this deal as well as the major achievement of Kosovo.
I think that this is important not only because it is also a state with a flag that recognises Kosovo, but because Israel may be an example and a partner for Kosovo. They have a lot in common. These are countries with small populations but amazing human capital. Very talented young people in particular in the technology sector. And the United States would like to see not only the governments of Kosovo and Israel, but also their business communities making connections. We think this is really exciting and both countries will benefit. I hope American companies are also involved in this process”.
As for the Kosovo Embassy's location in Israel, Costett said the US position has been clear that Kosovo has the sovereign right to decide on the issue.
Our wish is to see Kosovo and Israel focusing on the economic, security benefits of this relationship. But we are observers on this and this question of the embassy's location belongs to Kosovo and Israel”.
