Turkish MPJ) reacted after Biden's decision to call genocide massacre against Armenians

They have said they reject and denounce Beden's statement. They claim that the declaration has no scientific and legal basis and is not supported by any evidence.

“We come down and strongly denounce the US president's statement on April 24th regarding the events of 1915, under pressure from radical Armenian circles and anti-Turkey groups. Clearly, the statement in question has no scientific or legal basis, nor is it supported by any evidence. Regarding the events of 1915, none of the conditions required for using the term “genocide” that is rigorously defined in international law is met. The nature of the 1915 events does not differ in line with politicians' current political motives or internal political considerations. Such an attitude serves only a gross distortion of history”, the Turkish government's response reported.

The Turkish government has also called on Beden to correct this mistake, as they think it only serves to satisfy certain political circles.

Their full response:

Media notification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning April 24th

We reject and strongly denounce the US president's statement of April 24th about the events of 1915, made under pressure from radical Armenian circles and anti-Turkey groups.

Such an attitude serves only a gross distortion of history.

The European Court of Human Rights has clearly confirmed the controversial nature of the events of 1915. Moreover, in 2005 Turkey proposed to the Armenian side to create a Joint History Commission in order to achieve a fair memory in light of the historical facts of that period. Although Armenia has never responded to this proposal, the proposal is still valid. In this regard, the statement made by the US president, who is neither legally nor morally authorized to judge historical issues, has no value.

As a country located in the center of a region called the cradle of civilizations and that has adopted the attitude of exercising peace and quiet efforts for mankind despite all its suffering, Turkey has never avoided facing its history and would not receive lessons from any country, including the US. A.'s in this direction.

In this case, we once again commemorate the fond memories of individuals from all the Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities of the Ottoman Empire who lost their lives in the extraordinary conditions of the pre - first and during World War I. The message conveyed by President Recep Tayip Erduan on 24 April to the Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives in World War I, which was read during the liturgy at the Armenian Patriarchate in Istanbul, even this year, reflects Turkey's approach to the subject.

After more than a hundred years of this past suffering, instead of making sincere efforts to fully heal the wounds of the past and build the future together in our region, the US president's statement will not produce any other result than polarising nations and preventing peace and stability in our region.

This statement from the United States. A., which distorts historical facts, will never be accepted in the consciences of the Turkish people and will open a deep wound that undermines our mutual trust and friendship.

We call on the President of the United States to correct this serious mistake, which serves no other purpose than to satisfy certain political circles; instead of serving the agenda of those circles that tried to incite animosity from history, we invite it to support efforts to establish a practice of peaceful co-existence in the region, especially among Turkish and Armenian peoples.
