A court in Ankara has sentenced former top military officials to life in prison on Wednesday 38 years in the trial for failed put-insumptions in 2016.
Six of the defendants have been sentenced to life imprisonment for “violation of the constitution”, according to state news agency Anadolu.
Life sentence is the harshest sentence in Turkey, due to the abolition of the death penalty rule in 2002.
That's the kind of punishment there's no way of parole.
The court has sentenced another 106 defendants to sentences of more than 16 years in prison for violating the constitution, Anadolu has reported.
Among the other charges was attempted murder of the president.
A total of 121 people have been acquitted on all counts.
The trial against 497 defendants, including former presidential guard officials, was held from October 2017.
Prosecutors have accused suspects of occupying state broadcaster T RT in Ankara on the night of July 15, 2016, and the obligation of the presentation to read the Puchist statements.
Ankara blames United States-based religious cleric Fefiftullah Gulen for orchestrating failed attempts for the stake, and has declared his move a terrorist group.
The cleric, once friend and now critical of Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan, denies all charges.
Among the 289 judicial processes that are under way in terms of Pic attempts, 14 are under way, according to Anadolu. / REL
