Tens of people had been trapped for hours as rescue search teams tried to enter the tunnel, writes The Guardian, translates Periscope.
By noon Friday [day], it was found that 48 people had died, including the 33-year-old train driver.
81 others were sent to the hospital with injuries, one of whom died along the way.
