Switzerland will hold a referendum to allow same sex marriages, as opposition officials have forced the government to vote on the issue.
The Swiss Parliament adopted a bill that recognises the same sex marriages last December, many years after this was done by major Western states... and our Kosovo.
On Tuesday, the country's federal Chancellor announced that critics of the law had collected 61 thousand currency signatures to bring the issue to the national vote, writes The Guardian, translates Periscopi.
Under the Swiss system of direct democracy, members of the public can veto parliament's decisions through the referendum if they manage to collect 50,000 signatures within 100 days of publishing the act.
The federal Chancellor in May will publish the date for the plebiscite, which is not expected to be held before September, and which could potentially cause Switzerland to return a step behind Kosovo.
This initiative has been of several parties that have made political activism with slogans “Yes, marriage and family, not marriage for anyone. ”
