The survey, the largest of its kind, used electronic information from over 236 thousand patients, mainly from the United States, and found that 34 percent have experienced neurologic problems or mental health problems after infection. The most frequent problem has been anxiety.
Health experts warned that the health system should be supplied with resources to deal with patients affected by these problems. They estimate that the effect on health services can be felt for many years, writes The Guardian.
Other mental problems such as malaria were rarer but not unusual among patients who have been in a worse position. Of patients who have been in intensive care, 7 percent of them suffered strokes and almost 2 percent degeneracy.
After taking into account basic health characteristics, such as age, gender, ethnicity, and general health conditions, there was a 44 - percent higher risk after coronary infection than after the flu.
Professor Paul Harrison of this study, of Oxford University, said: “These are real world data from a large number of patients. They confirm the high degree of psychiatric diagnostics that also affect the nervous system. ”
