Research done by The Guardian has revealed that 18 thousand and 292 unique immigrants have disappeared in Europe between January 2018 and December 2020 equivalents to 17 children lost a day.
In 2020 alone, 2768 children disappeared in 13 European countries.
Most of the children who have disappeared for the past three years have come to Europe from Morocco, but Algeria, Eritrea, Guinea, and Afghanistan were countries of origin of these children, reports The Guardian, translated Periscope in Albanian.
According to available data, 90% of the children were boys, and about one in six children were younger than 15.
The research, which collected data from unaccompanied children missing from 27 EU countries, found that the information received was often inconsistent or incompatible, meaning that the actual numbers of missing children could be much higher.
