Sfish: Housekeeping conditions offered by COVID-19

With the release of anti-Convidian measures from the government, the Students Centre in Pristina has also opened, which according to officials from the centre provides security for students for protection from Ovid-19. The director of this centre, Fatmir Sfishta, stresses that students are safer and more protected there, as using rooms by a student makes security greater, though with a smaller budget and less capacity.

It shows that the smaller acceptance of the number of students has had effects on the budget, but that so far have not had problems.

We have as many as 4,000 students, at the moment we have about 1600 students and that automatically affects our own income budget, I talk about monetary revenues, but so far we have no budget problems, for the next year we have to see how it's going to affect it further. I believe that students feel more protected in the student center than going to their own family environments, or other environments, because a student uses a room space, goes to the cafeteria and takes food with him, and there's a lot of other students' contacts limited, so I believe students are very safe to spread it even for protection from Ovid-19. Where it's worth talking about from the beginning of the academic year so far we've only had two cases with Covid “, Sfisha said.

He said closing dormitories has not been welcomed by students.

We have been forced to respect that decision where students have gone to their homes or to make other choices, it has not been good for the students because they now have a test deadline, April deadlines and there have been some <x0 reactions, Sfish told EO.

He points out that just as during the beginnings of the pandemic where the regulation has been to place one student in the rooms, the same rule will continue again after today's opening of dormitories.

When the student center, the managerial dormitories for the needs of students during this 2020-2021 academic year, all these recommendations we've undertaken in cooperation with the institute where they visited all spaces and came up with a visa of recommendations that we've respected, one of which has been for a student to be placed in the room except family cases, when sisters with sisters are placed in one room. From now on we just keep going where we left them two weeks ago and all measures will be respected until the end of the academic year”, he said, among other things.

After two weeks of staying outside this center, all students have returned where they were, without any preliminary control if they might be infected with Ovid-19.

The director of the Student Center says he can't force the students to run tests while they don't have doctors to control them right now.

I can't force the students to run tests, it's up to them, but I hope there's no increase in infection cases, I hope very much, but we're willing and in case there are students who are infected we have a plan of how to react in those moments, and if he's infected, it goes for treatment and after Covid's passage back to his room. The student center has a Family Medicine Center here, but it's been doing more than a year of testing to identify the population with Covid, and for now there is no doctor who directly cares for students”, Sfish said.

He says a renewed closure of dormitories wouldn't be good, hoping there won't be a situation like that again.
