The United States at today's Security Council session has expressed their support for the state of Kosovo.
The American representative there said elections in Kosovo reflect the will of the people of Kosovo.
“The US wants to begin by commending the people of Kosovo for holding free and transparent elections, and that reflects Kosovo's will for peace and prosperity in this country. We congratulate the woman's promotion. This is an extremely big achievement that shows the belonging to the UN agenda”, the American representative said.
He also cited the process of dialogue, which he said has no time to lose.
In this context, he also mentioned the agreement reached in Washington.
“The United States expects to work with Kurt and Osman in many common priorities, starting with fighting corruption, reforms and normalising relations with Sabrin. With Kosovo's new government, we welcome EU emissary plans for dialogue to resume in the near future. The pledges given by Kosovo and Serbia in September 2020 have strengthened the level of economic co-operation. We believe that there is good basis, and very little time to waste”, he said.
Therefore, he called for both sides to implement the agreements reached earlier.
Meanwhile, he said his mission UNMIK in Kosovo must be closed.
We call for implementation of past agreements. The U.S. wants to reiterate its position that UNMIK must move towards closure. We invite it to end. UNMIK. I want to congratulate Kosovo and Israel for establishing diplomatic relations”, the US representative said.
