The country's new president, Vjosa Osmani, is being asked to prioritize her work on the issue of women being raped during the war, found and empowered by women in Kosovo.

So said Kosovo Centre for Gender Studies Director Luljeta Demolli, who has said Osman's election to the head of state will empower the country's girls and women and will be an example that politics is not only the arena of men.

She says the country's new president must prioritize the issue of women being violated during the war, found, and absent for greater involvement of women in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process.

We as the Center would like the issue of women's violations during the war to be in her priorities and agenda, as well as the question of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to include women, as well as the issue of the missing to be at her desk in any discussion she has. Also, to create commissions or under its authority advice working on eliminating all forms of discrimination against women, because we have discrimination in Kosovo, we have discrimination in employment for women, we have discrimination at other levels of”, she says.

For President Osmani to have a top priority for women raped during the war, women's identity and empowerment in Kosovo, says Kosovo Women's Network Director Igballe Rogova.

The one for KosovoPress says Osmani must also commit to supporting girls in education.

In view of the fact that within 10 years we had two women presidential and in view of President Jahjaga's experience of her struggling from the first day to empower women, especially those women who have been survivors of sexual violence. I think President Osmani can do much as he said in the speech, with concrete support market both for girls and women in Kosovo. She only made the first meeting instead of the inauguration, and she made an appointment with Majlinda, and she says she's interested in supporting girls to handle sports. Then we had the education group, meaning education is one of the main issues girls in Kosovo must support, she says.

Since last year the number of cases of domestic violence has increased, even as a cause of the COVIID-19 pandemic, the director of the Kosovar Centre for Gender Studies, Luljet Demoll, says the role of the new president in lowering these cases is expressed in keeping the government of Istanbul under pressure for all legislation that exists against violence.

“President Osmani has postponed the issue of the Istanbul Convention, we demand that it keep the Government under pressure for the Istanbul Convention to be included in all legislation that exists against violence in Kosovo, strategy and the Law for Protection From Family Violence. Also, we demand that it keep the state of Kosovo under pressure, the Kosovo government to budget in the best way the issue of implementing the Istanbul Convention, because it would then regulate the issue of violence against women”, Demolli says.

A promise that she will support the girls in Kosovo has given the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, herself, in her first speech after giving the oath as the first state.

The girls only have their place where they want to, where they dream every night, where they work hard and diligently. No matter whether you dream of becoming president, jurist, physician, entrepreneur, engineer, police, soldier or any other profession that you love your heart, which you work for, don't stop, never stop your step. Anything is possible, any dream of yours can become reality, and we have to trust together. And as you travel through the different stages of your life to the peaks, I will look down on you with admiration, support you with all the possibilities I have of my entire being, I will cheer on every achievement of yours, I will support you and I will be there when you are challenged and proud as often as you will triumph”, it is expressed.

Vjosa Osmani has been elected president of the country on Sunday, while it is the second woman since after independence to lead the country. The one in the February 14th election is the most voted person in Kosovo, where it has received more than 300 thousand votes.
