Montenegro's MPB: Abazovic's life is in danger, trying to kill him

The security of Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovich has been strengthened because there are indications that members of the Kavac criminal clan are preparing for his liquidation, Vijesti writes. The Ministry of Interior Affairs in Montenegro says they reached such information by investigating the assassination of Zoran Ashan, conducted yesterday in Mojkovac.

“In this particular case, the collected information shows the purpose of members of organised criminal groups, primarily members of the organised Kavac criminal group and one of its leaders, Slobodal Kashchhelan, to undertake activities aimed at committing serious and organised crime in response to their privatisation from freedom and prosecution, risking the lives of Montenegro's deputy prime minister, Mr. Dritan Abazovic”, the Montenegrin Interior Ministry announced.

As it goes on to say, given the importance of the activities previously carried out, and aware of the fact that members of the group mentioned as criminal are part of broader regional structures, with very strong links at the transnational level, whose main feature is committing the most serious crimes, any activity aimed at endangering the physical integrity of senior state officials would destabilise the favourable but very complex security situation.

In addition, notes that without further delays, in co-operation with other state institutions, mainly additional measures and actions were taken to protect Abazovic's security. Additional measures and actions have been undertaken in order to confirm information in question and provide evidence that would lead to prosecution of persons involved in the activities in question.

These findings show only the determination of members of organised criminal groups to try to preserve their “criminal property and influence on the criminal market at any cost, and that identical or similar cases in which the targets were senior security officials or senior government officials. We are not unknown “” for Montenegrins and regional criminal structures associated with it. We observe that, both in recent activities and activities during the previous period, we have shown that we have personal and professional courage, to fully meet modern security challenges and with members of organised criminal groups, and that despite all their “ ” their efforts continue to be the focus of continued attention to intelligence and security sector bodies”, the ministry announced.
