German Chancellor Angela Merkel is planning to take control of the situation management of the coronary pandemic from federal regions to have the right to impose restrictive measures in high-level infection areas.
The plan came at a time when the chief of the Institute for Infectious Diseases in Germany said the country needs a two-to-four-week isolation to prevent the fulfillment of patients' hospitals, writes The Guardian.
“German is in the middle of a third wave, so the federal government and states (regions) have agreed to complete national legislation”, a German government spokeswoman said Friday.
The goal here is to create common national rules”, she added, clarifying that the change of the pandemic law could be set for discussion in the cabinet Tuesday of next week.
According to reports in German media, the new bill would allow the central government to set night-night police hours, close stores and impose strict rules for business testing in regions that register over 100 new cases for 100,000 people over a period of seven days.
Based on current legislation, German regions have the right to decide for themselves how to interpret the demands of the central government's emergency mechanism. In recent weeks, Merkel has repeatedly expressed outrage at regional prime ministers who unilaterally have eased restrictive measures despite increasing the number of infections.
