Ramadan begins tonight, the most special month of Islam. For fourteen centuries Muslims around the world celebrate this month, refraining from daily food and goods, with a high motive for sacrifice and belonging to the weak, the poor, and the sick.
Fasting for a believer is a physical and psychic challenge. It is the example of the rule of the mind over the body. It is the month when the empty stomach, from east to sunset, is coupled with the soul fed by kindness, good deeds and good words, love and peace with one another.
Even this year Ramadan finds us in the heavy circumstances of pandemic, which continues to take lives around the globe.
Love and solidarity with the other during this blessed month, we can best express it by taking responsibility to preserve our health and our loved ones from the dangerous virus.
Enjoy your first act, and be it easy for you to fast.
