Kosovo flag not removed, Security Council meeting continues despite Russia's request

The Security Council decided to continue the work of the virtual session for Kosovo despite Russia's request that Foreign Affairs Minister Donika Grovall remove Kosovo's flag from the background. After the start of the session, top diplomat Donika Grovalla has not changed her background, and Kosovo's flag is standing behind her again in the environment she is standing in.

Zahir Tan, the Secretary General's Special Representative in his address, summed up the events of the past six months, such as the recent parliamentary elections, the election of president and the situation with the pandemic.

Russia's representative at the UN Security Council session being held for Kosovo has asked Kosovo Foreign Minister Donika Grovall to remove the Kosovo flag behind it or change the environment.

“We are not against the representatives of Kosovo, however, I want to share the fact that Mrs. Donika Gervala is sitting in front of the Kosovo flag. Kosovo is not recognised as a state but only as a territory, so we seek to continue the presentation either to change the look back or to remove the flag so that we can move away”, the Russian representative said.

To that Russia's request, the representative of Great Britain has reacted, saying they see no reason for Kosovo's top diplomat to change the view he will present.

“This is not an official meeting and we don't see any reason for Minister Gervala to change the look back to continue the presentation”, said the representative of the Together Kingdom
